6/20/16 email:
So this week was a good week. We had Zone Meetings this week. It was different though as an Assistant. We visited several Zone Meetings to see how the new Zone Leaders were handling training, and how they were running Zone Meetings. It was really interesting too because we get to see the way Zone Leaders (or any missionary the Zone Leaders assign) take our trainings from MLC (they take Elder Sekona's, President's, Sister Mendenhall's, and the training I gave and basically alter them to fit their missionaries in their Zones) and applied them to their Zones. So that was kinda cool! It was nice to be able to sit back for once in a Zone Meeting as well and not train! Haha.
Haha... so a funny story for you! So another responsibility we have as Assistants is to move cars around to missionaries who need them. One of our privileges is that when we drive to move cars around we can drive alone. No one else can do that without special permission. So anyways, we got a call from the car coordinator in the mission telling us that there was a car that just came out of the shop, and that it wasn't assigned to anyone. So we needed to find a place for it. We both thought of a ward in Aurora that needed one and so we called the Zone Leaders to see what they thought. They agreed that they needed it. As we talked with the Zone Leaders they told us that we should pull a little prank on these elders.
Haha so we all came up with the genius plan to prank them. They told us that we should give them a call and talk to one of the companions who was the District Leader. He is a fairly new one as well, and he is pretty young in the mission, too. They told us that we should tell them, in a very serious tone, that we needed to talk to him about a situation that happened in his District Meeting. Well of course nothing bad had happened in any of his District Meetings so he was going to ask what the situation was. We were to tell him that it would be easier to talk to him about it in person than over the phone (we needed to tell them we were coming down there, but we didn't want to give him the real reason, it was a surprise! ;) ).
We thought it was genius and so we did it. This Elder became very scared the minute we brought up the "situation" that happened in his District Meeting, and of course exactly what he thought he would ask, but said that we could come down and talk with him. We hung up the phone and Elder Sekona and I were hooting and hollering because of his reaction. We got down there with the car and parked it down the street from their house. We decided that we would "walk and talk" about the "situation" when we were really just going to walk them to their car and surprise them. We parked the car and went up to the house. They let us in and I started to just keep friendly conversation with them
(Elder Sekona had to use the bathroom). I watched this Elder's body language and you could tell he was just terrified. I looked at his hands and they were shaking terribly! He was so nervous that when we would ask him a question about anything he would stutter over his words. (Elder Sekona and I started to feel a little bad that we were scaring him this badly, but we had to keep it going.) After Elder Sekona used the bathroom, I needed to use the bathroom, so this just prolonged the wait for him, and you could tell he was getting more and more nervous. After I used the bathroom we asked them if we could "walk and talk" with them. They said yes and we started to head to the car. Elder Sekona started to ask them questions like, "so have your Zone Leaders mentioned anything to you?" He of course said no. Elder Sekona then started saying things like, "well elders just know that we love you, we love you a lot!" He was just trying to drag things on till we got to the car. Meanwhile I watched this Elder and you could tell it was all he could do not to cry he was so nervous, he just kept his hands in his pockets and he didn't look up as we walked.
We arrived right in front of the car and Elder Sekona again said, "Elders we love you so much that we brought you a car!" I had the keys in my pocket and I tossed him the keys. This Elder's face went from sheer terror to complete bewilderment to absolute happiness! Hahaha he literally jumped in the air with excitement and almost chucked the keys at the ground. Hahahaha it was hilarious!!!!! They were super happy!
So that was my week! Hope all is well! I miss and Love you all!
Elder Takis
